029: Developing a World Class You – the Path of IPA (Identity, Productivity, and Anti-fragility)

podcast Mar 22, 2021

On this episode of High Flow Lifestyle, I continue my discussion with peak performance coach and entrepreneur Eric Partaker and we discuss what it takes to develop a WorldClass version of yourself, which involves stress, discipline, and flow.

The pain of discipline vs. The pain of regret.

“We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.”
― Jim Rohn

Eric believes too many of the speakers and literature is too slanted toward positivity. Life isn’t always so positive. Suffering is part of the process. Pleasure and pain go hand in hand.

The pain of discipline is always less than the pain of regret.

World Class, discipline, and greatness. To be World-Class it comes with the pain and payment of discipline.

By not choosing discipline they are choosing second best.

“Knowledge is cheap these days. I don’t think knowledge is power anymore. Now it’s about who’s going to act, the right way and the most quickly.”

IPA – and not the beer

  • (Self) Identity
  • Productivity
  • Anti-fragility

“I like to think of life as one big mental training camp. Whereby all of those challenges are nothing more than weights, in a way, being presented to me that I can choose to step into or choose to run away from. And I know which one makes me stronger. Step into it.”

The key thing that helped him write his book was working with others. The magic happens when you share ideas and work on them with others.

Think very intentionally about, who is it that you want to be at your best, and then what does it take to operate at that level.

Think about a time when you were operating at your best. What were the conditions that were enabling that at that time? Because you have the data inside you.

Then you record the data surrounding that time, and think about:

  • What were you doing exercise-wise?
  • What were you doing collaboration-wise?
  • What were your routines and what do they look like?
  • Morning routines?
  • Evening routines?
  • How was your sleep?
  • What was bringing you joy during that time?
  • What, if anything, was draining you of energy during that time?

Look back to your past when you were operating at your peak and in that state of flow, and note what those conditions were.

Then seek to replicate them now, but maybe with the addition of, what is you at your best across the Health, Wealth, and Relationship front.
